Can This Software Do What I Need?

Revo Uninstaller Pro covers several different removal situations. The key question is not simply whether it can uninstall software, but which removal method fits the state of the program you are dealing with.

  • I want to uninstall a normal desktop program and check for leftovers

    Standard program removal

    Yes

Revo normally runs the program’s own uninstaller first, then lets you scan for leftover Registry entries, files and folders. This is the everyday removal path.

  • The program is broken, partly removed, or its uninstaller is missing

    Damaged or incomplete installation

    Yes — Forced Uninstall

Forced Uninstall is designed for programs that are not listed correctly, have a missing or non-working uninstaller, or were only partly installed or removed. You can identify the target by name, file or folder path.

  • I already removed a program with Windows and want to look for remnants

    Leftovers after an earlier uninstall

    Yes — Forced Uninstall

Forced Uninstall can perform a leftover scan even when the original program is no longer installed or listed. Revo’s support documentation specifically describes using it for programs removed previously through Windows.

  • I want to uninstall Windows apps or remove several apps

    Windows Apps

    Yes

Revo has a separate Windows Apps module. In Pro 5, Quick Uninstall can also remove multiple Windows apps, and the product supports removal for all user accounts and app reset functions.

  • I want to remove extensions from supported browsers

    Browser extensions

    Yes — Pro

The Browser Extensions module covers Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera and Internet Explorer. The relevant browser should be closed before its extension is removed.

  • I am installing software now and want a more precise removal record for later

    Installation monitoring

    Yes — Pro

The Real-Time Installation Monitor can trace system changes during an installation and save them as a trace log. That log can later be used as a more exact removal record than relying only on a post-uninstall leftover scan.

  • I can see a program window, shortcut or tray icon but I am not sure what entry controls it

    Hunter Mode

    Use Hunter Mode

Hunter Mode lets you drag a target over a visible program window, desktop shortcut or system-tray icon. Depending on the target, Revo can offer actions such as Uninstall, Stop Auto Starting, Kill Process, Properties or Open Containing Folder.

  • I want the same Revo Pro functionality on a USB drive or across many computers

    Portable use

    Better fit: Pro Portable

Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable has the same core functionality as Pro but is licensed per user rather than per computer and is designed to run from removable storage across unlimited computers, subject to the vendor’s portable-license conditions.

How It Works

Revo’s removal workflow changes according to what information is still available about the program. A normal uninstall starts with the application’s own uninstaller; Forced Uninstall works when that path is damaged or missing; tracing is something you do at install time so you have a detailed removal record later.

Standard Program Uninstall

For a normally installed desktop program, Revo first analyzes the application’s uninstall information and can create a System Restore Point and full Registry backup. It then launches the program’s built-in uninstaller. After that finishes, Revo can scan for leftover data.

  1. Select the installed program and start Uninstall.
  2. Review the backup options, then allow the program’s built-in uninstaller to finish when it is available.
  3. Choose a leftover scan mode, review the detected Registry items, files and folders, and delete only the items you want removed.
Method / ModeUse it whenImportant condition
SafeWhen you want the fastest, most conservative leftover scan.Scans the Registry and drive for leftover data with the lightest depth.
ModerateFor normal use when you want a broader scan without immediately choosing the deepest mode. The current manual recommends Moderate while users are learning the uninstall workflow.
AdvancedWhen you deliberately want the deepest leftover scan.It is the slowest mode and deserves the most careful review; the manual notes that unrelated Registry items can very occasionally appear.

Forced Uninstall

Forced Uninstall is the recovery path when a program is missing from the installed-program list, its normal uninstaller is damaged, or the software was removed earlier and you now want to search for remnants. Revo can work from the program’s exact name, a related file or folder path, or both, and it also checks for a matching built-in uninstaller or trace log.

  1. Open Forced Uninstall and identify the target by its exact name, file or folder path.
  2. Review any built-in uninstaller or matching Logs Database / personal trace log that Revo finds.
  3. Choose Safe, Moderate or Advanced scanning, then review the leftovers before deletion.

Trace an Installation for Cleaner Removal Later

Real-Time Installation Monitor records system changes while a program is being installed and stores them in a trace log. With the installed version of Revo, tracing can begin from the setup file’s context menu or from inside Revo itself.

  1. Start the installation through Revo and avoid running unrelated programs or other installers while tracing.
  2. Install the software normally while the Revo AppBar monitors the changes.
  3. Launch the newly installed program once so its initial configuration data is created, then save the trace log for use during a later uninstall.

Compatibility & Coverage

Compatibility for an uninstaller is partly about Windows support and partly about what type of software Revo can actually target. The current official material also distinguishes the normal installed edition from Pro Portable.

Windows & Installation Environment

Current published requirements cover 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, 11 and Windows Server Editions.

Installed Pro vs Pro PortableSame core functionality; different deployment and licensing modelPortable is non-installable, can run from removable storage and is licensed per user rather than per computer.

What Revo Can Remove

Revo separates classic desktop software, Windows apps and browser extensions into different product areas because each removal path works differently.

ItemCoverage / SupportNotes
Desktop programsSupportedNormal uninstall can be followed by Safe, Moderate or Advanced leftover scanning.
Windows appsSupportedPro 5 supports multi-app removal through Quick Uninstall, removal for all user accounts and app reset.
Browser extensionsChrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera and Internet ExplorerClose the relevant browser before removing its extension.

Features & Capabilities

The useful way to read Revo’s feature set is by removal job: cleaning up a normal uninstall, recovering from a broken uninstall path, creating stronger evidence before removal, and providing safety or supporting tools around those operations.

Program Removal & Leftover Scanning

  • Standard uninstall followed by leftover Registry, file and folder scanning
  • Safe, Moderate and Advanced leftover scan modes
  • Forced Uninstall for damaged, missing, unlisted or previously removed programs
  • Quick/Multiple Uninstall for reducing manual work across removal queues

Installation Tracing & Logs Database

  • Real-Time Installation Monitor creates trace logs while software is installed
  • Traced Programs can remove software from a saved installation record
  • Logs Database provides Revo-created trace logs stored on the vendor’s server
  • Trace logs can be viewed, exported, imported and shared between computers

Windows Apps, Browser Extensions & Hunter Mode

  • Dedicated Windows Apps module with multi-app removal in Pro 5
  • Browser-extension removal for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera and Internet Explorer
  • Hunter Mode can target visible windows, desktop shortcuts and system-tray icons
  • Hunter Mode actions can include Uninstall, Stop Auto Starting, Kill Process, Properties and Open Containing Folder

Backup & Additional Tools

  • Optional Windows System Restore Point and full Registry backup at uninstall start
  • Deleted leftover Registry entries are backed up through Revo’s Backup Manager
  • Leftover files and folders are sent to the Recycle Bin by default
  • Additional tools include Autorun Manager, Junk Files Cleaner, Windows Tools, History Cleaner and secure-deletion utilities

Important Conditions & Limitations

A deeper uninstaller can remove more than Windows’ basic uninstall entry, but that also makes process choice and review important. These are the conditions that matter most before treating every removal as a one-click cleanup.

The Program’s Built-In Uninstaller Usually Runs First

For a normal installed program, Revo is not a replacement installer engine from the first click. It ordinarily launches the program’s own uninstaller, then adds its leftover analysis afterward. If the built-in uninstaller is missing or malfunctioning, Forced Uninstall provides a different path.

Moderate Is the Safer Default While You Are Learning

Revo offers Safe, Moderate and Advanced leftover scans. The current manual explicitly recommends Moderate while users are learning the workflow. Advanced performs the deepest scan, and the manual notes that Registry items related to other software can very occasionally appear, so review matters.

Close the Target Program Before Removal

Revo’s support guidance says to make sure the program is not running before uninstalling it. For browser extensions, the matching browser should also be closed before removal.

Installation Tracing Works Best in an Isolated Installation Session

The vendor recommends closing unnecessary programs and avoiding other installations while Real-Time Installation Monitor is tracing. Launch the newly installed program once before saving the log so its initial configuration data is also captured.

Use Windows’ Own Tools for Windows Updates

Revo may list some Windows updates, but its support documentation advises handling Windows update installation and removal through Windows’ built-in functionality because those changes can be critical to the operating system.

Uninstall Backups Are Not a Full Application Rollback

Revo provides several recovery layers for data it removes, but the vendor still describes reinstalling the program as the best and easiest solution when you want the application itself back. Backup Manager and the Recycle Bin are safety nets for removed leftovers, not a complete snapshot of the application.

Free Trial / Free Version

You do not have to buy Pro just to see whether Revo’s basic removal approach suits you. Revo Uninstaller Free is a continuing free product, while Revo Uninstaller Pro also has a 30-day trial that the vendor says does not require a credit card.

System Requirements

Revo Uninstaller Pro has a lightweight Windows hardware baseline. The current published requirements cover both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows editions and specify modest memory, storage and processor needs.

Alternatives & Better-Fit Options

The best alternative depends on what you are actually trying to manage. Use another uninstaller when you want a different removal workflow, or a Registry-focused tool when software removal is not the real job. For more products from the same vendor, see more Revo software on SoftRadar24.

IObit Uninstaller PRO

A useful cross-brand alternative when you want another Windows uninstaller with its own removal and cleanup workflow rather than Revo’s trace-log and Forced Uninstall approach.

FAQ

These questions focus on the practical details that most often change which Revo removal method you should use and what you can realistically expect to restore afterward.

Can Revo Uninstaller Pro remove a program that is not listed?

Yes. Forced Uninstall does not require the program to be listed correctly. You can enter the program’s exact name, point Revo to a related file or folder, or use both, then scan for matching uninstall information and leftovers.

Does Revo Uninstaller Pro replace the program’s built-in uninstaller?

Usually no. In the normal workflow, Revo first runs the program’s built-in uninstaller and then offers its own leftover scan. Forced Uninstall is the better route when the built-in uninstaller is missing, damaged or unusable.

What is the difference between Safe, Moderate and Advanced scanning?

Safe is the fastest and most conservative leftover scan. Moderate includes Safe and checks additional common locations; Revo’s current manual recommends Moderate while users are learning the workflow. Advanced includes Moderate and performs the deepest, slowest scan, so its findings deserve the most careful review.

Can Revo Uninstaller Pro uninstall Windows apps?

Yes. Revo has a separate Windows Apps module. Pro 5 can also use Quick Uninstall for multiple Windows apps, remove an app for all user accounts and reset an app to its default state.

Can Revo Uninstaller Pro remove browser extensions?

Yes. The Browser Extensions module supports Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera and Internet Explorer. Close the relevant browser before removing its extension.

Can I undo an uninstall performed with Revo Uninstaller Pro?

Not as a complete one-click application rollback. Revo says reinstalling the program is the best and easiest way to get the application back. Its safety layers can help restore deleted leftover Registry entries through Backup Manager, and leftover files and folders are sent to the Recycle Bin by default.

What is the main difference between Revo Uninstaller Free and Pro?

Free already provides standard uninstallation with leftover scanning, Windows Apps and Hunter Mode. Pro adds advanced removal functions such as Forced Uninstall, Quick/Multiple Uninstall, extended leftover scanning, Real-Time installation monitoring, Logs Database, Browser Extensions and the multi-level backup system.

What happens when a Revo Uninstaller Pro update subscription expires?

The current license remains usable without a time limit for versions released before the update subscription expired. Renewal is needed if you want to use versions released after that expiration date.

Can Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable be used on multiple computers?

Yes, under its portable licensing model. Revo says Pro Portable is licensed per user rather than per computer, is suitable for USB use and can be used across unlimited computers. It is designed to be activated once and then moved with the portable copy rather than activated separately on every computer.
